After my visit with Mazzy I am coming around the infirmary when I see someone digging in the ground in back of the dead tree.

From the infirmary it looks like it could be a dog. But when I focus with those big Sura eyes I can see that flat baldy and I know it is Coly Jo.

Coly Jo is digging up the ground with his hands, and when the hole is deep enough so that his hands are disappearing, he reaches into his pocket and pulls out something wrapped in a nose rag. He makes sure those folds are tight and then he looks left and right like he’s making sure no one else is around. Slider calls that “billing a spot.”

So Coly Jo is billing his spot and then he takes whatever is wrapped in that nose rag and shoves it into the ground. Then he starts scooping the dirt back into the ground.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Coly Jo bust it so hard at something. I’ve seen how he can throw down some of that hash house food, and I’ve even seen him bust through some pushups when he wants to. But this is different. That baldy of his is shining like some wet fudge. He pats the dirt down so it’s flat.

You’ve seen how a dog will bury a bone. You’ve seen that a thousand times. But you ain’t never seen a kid bury nothing before. Not even hoodies.
